R2-D2

R2-D2 was an inventive astromech droid and in turn served Padmé Amidala, Anakin Skywalker and Luke Skywalker.

He showed great courage in saving his masters and their friends from many dangers. He was an experienced spaceship engineer and assistant to a fighter pilot and formed an unlikely but lasting friendship with the picky protocol droid C-3PO.

Like all R2 units, R2-D2 can perform repairs on the outside of a flying spacecraft. He secures with his magnetic feet when he is not in his special niche.

R2-D2 has, besides its magnetic feet, a large number of other built-in tricks. For example, he has a communication arm, a holographic projector, a fire extinguisher, a life sensor, a circular saw, a claw, a jetpack and a welding machine. He can also intentionally spray or leak oil to blind an enemy.

Like all astromechdroids, R2-D2 cannot speak in a language that an average being can understand. He communicates with beeps. With (fictional) specialist equipment, such as the astrochtranslator, or with the help of another droid such as the protocoldroid C-3PO, the speech of an astromech can be interpreted.

This iconic robot has been marketed as a toy by various manufacturers.
