Pepper

Pepper, the human-shaped robot

Pepper is designed by Aldebaran Robotics in collaboration with SoftBank Mobile.

Pleasant and likable, Pepper is much more than a robot, it's a real humanoid buddy made to communicate in the most natural and intuitive way, through his body movements an to make and use of his voice. Pepper loves to communicate with people, to learn more about their tastes and habits.

Pepper can recognize faces, talk, listen and move autonomously.

Dance, play, learn, or even chat in another language, Pepper can do it all.

Pepper gradually saves personality characteristics, preferences and adapts to the tastes and habits of its human companion.

Pepper is able to identify the main emotions: joy, sadness, anger or surprise.

It is also capable of interpreting a smile, a frown, the tone of voice and non-verbal language such as the angle of someone's head, for example. The combination of all this information is used by the robot to determine whether his human partner is in a good or bad mood.

Pepper is not a functional robot for domestic use. Instead, Pepper is intended "to make people happy”, to improve the lives of people, facilitating relationships, have fun with people and connecting people with the outside world. Pepper's creators hope that independent developers will create new content and apps for Pepper.

The head of the robot has four microphones, two HD cameras (in the mouth and forehead) and a 3-D depth sensor (behind the eyes). There is a gyroscope in the hull and touch sensors in the head and hands. The mobile base has two sonars, six lasers, three bumper sensors and a gyroscope.

Furthermore, a tablet used to help make decisions, but also to express his own emotions.

It is able to execute existing software designed for the other robot NAO found in the Aldebaran app store.
