Furbies were the first successful attempt to produce and sell a robot for the consumer.

A newly purchased Furby begins to speak with "Furbish", the unique language that all Furbies use, but is programmed to use English words and sentences instead of Furbish over time.

This process is intended to create the impression that English is learning.

It is able to communicate with other Furbies that are nearby.

Furby is designed to develop a distinct personality based on how users interact with them.

The updated Emoto-Tronic Furby, with speech recognition and more complex facial movements, was sold by Hasbro between 2005-2007.

They released another updated Furby with LCD eyes and a mobile app for the 2012 holidays.
